Add Color Everywhere to Your Garden

Adding color to your garden does so many things.  Best of all it gives you a great feeling when you get to your own home and see it.

This year, the most popular color is purple.  Any shade of purple.  From light lavender to deep rich purple.  Next would be any shade of pink.

It is easy to understand the color purple.  It denotes royalty, richness, wealth and security.  just look at the flowers themselves, most often they are velvety in texture.

Purple foliage plants such as Purple Queen, a mounding plant that fills in beautifully in border gardens, add great color and richness.  An added bonus comes with the small pink to purple flowers that appear on it.  Absolutely beautiful.

There are many varieties of lavendar to fill in any sunny garden with swaths of all shades of purple, along with a scent that just fills the air and makes everyone remember favorite pasttimes.

There's Aster, Hardy Geranium, Iris and Hydrangea.

Annuals fill in with more beauty.  There are many, many petunias now.  All different sizes and shades.  Use them in containers and flower boxes.

Of course, there are more colors to choose from.  Build your garden with waves of color.  Start with a piece of paper and your favorite crayons if you like.  Put the colors down in patterns that you like.  Waves, circles, waves around circles.  If it works on the paper, you can transfer it to your garden.

Take the paper to your favorite garden center and pick out plants that match the colors.  Be sure to have noted the amount of light and water available in the area you are planting.  Check the labels or ask the nursery what the plants require.

Be sure to always have a bit of green foliage or shrubbery mixed in as a foundation.  It grounds the garden and is a staple should you decide that you like a different color more in the future.
