Autumn, My Most Favorite Time Of Year

Wow, summertime is over, it went by so fast!  Some areas of the country really had almost no summer, it rained so much, the sun never came out until midAugust!

But, now, fall is here, cooler, dryer weather and more sunshine!

Now is the perfect time, in most of the country, to take care of your lawn.  Seed it and feed it,  Use a premium seed, be sure it is guaranteed to be as close as possible to being weed free.

With all the rain most areas of the country had, you will notice that the leaves ae already starting to fall off the trees.  They aren't even turning any color at all, just dropping off.  It is crazy to see this time of year, or is it just that Labor Day was so late and all the rain made it seem like there was no summer?

Weeds will be disappearing on their own, but beware, that will lull you into a false sense of security, since the seed is still there.  When the temperature is consistently below 85°, that is the time to put down weed killer, it is ineffective when it is too hot and fall weed control helps next year.

It is also a perfect time to paint or stain, read our article on How To Stain Your Deck.

Start cutting back your perennial gardens as plants and flowers die off.  Deadheading now will bring you more beautiful flowers in the spring.  Plant some fall flowering perennials like Japanese Anemone, New England Aster, Hardy Begonia, Chrysanthemums, Daisies and Lilyturf.

If you have moles or voles, there are plenty of treatments available on the market, but it is usually best to have a professional treat for them.  The pros have products that you cannot purchase unless you have a license and they usually work the best.

After all this rain, will there be rainbows for the Northeast?
What to do now?

Well, obviously depending on your area of the country, it could be just about anything.

It seems that we are at the end of Spring and the beginning of summer in most parts of the country, not just time wize, but weather wize as well.  There have been crazy storms everywhere, which will always cause concern for our plantings.
