Spring in the Midwest
There are many things to do now that the growing season is just around the corner.  With the right preparation, you will enjoy your garden more and the amount of work you will have to do will be less.

For your lawn, look for bare spots.  If they are more than say, 6 inches in diameter, you will have to do some repair work on them, less than that, they will fill in on their own as the season starts.  Check the amount of light and water the area gets and then check with your local garden center for the latest seed or seed and fertilizer combination.

Put down pre-emergent weed control on the lawn now.

Get your mower ready.  Most importantly check the blades to be sure they aer straight and sharp.  How about your weed whacker?  Is it and your mower running okay?  If not, and you would rather repair than replace, and if it is beyond your capability to do so, get it to your local reapir shop now, before they have a deluge with everyone when lawns start to really grow.

Clean up your garden beds, pick up all debris and any leaves that may have fallen after your fall cleanup.  Add any amendments to your soil now.  Composting is always best, but if weeds were out of control in your garden last year, then you can also put down pre-emergent weed control.  Put down mulch in the beds, which will also help in weed control.

If you thought your perennials were getting a bit too big in some areas, you can divide them now as new growth starts to appear.
