Summer

Ahhh, summer.  Now is the time that you would like to sit back, relax and enjoy the fruits, sometimes literally, of your labor.  You pretty much can.

You've designed, prepared, weeded, pruned and trimmed all year to get to this point.

Aside from routine maintenance, what should you or your landscaper be doing now to be sure that you have a relaxing, hassle-free summer in your garden and your lawn is nothing more than a beautiful, lush, green blanket or playground?

Here is a list of things you should take care of now:

Monitor irrigation to lawn and beds

Continue mowing, increasing mower height to 3.5" in the summer heat

Monitor lawn stress

Apply appropriate lawn fertilizer

Weed beds, continue to cut edges

Treat walks and driveway with vegetation retardant where and when necessary

Check for insects and diseases, treat if necessary

Candle needle evergreens

Prune shrubs that have flowered

Monitor annuals and remove any that have started to fade and die

Continue to apply weed and feed to lawn

Monitor perennials and remove any dead leaves and flowers

Apply grub control to lawn in late summer

That's it, now, get out that good book and relax!
